What does it look like when God tests the very foundation of our faith? We see Sarah laughing in the tent, her hope long since worn out, and we recognize ourselves in that laugh. And then we watch Abraham rise early one morning and walk toward a mountain with his son, armed with nothing but a faith forged through years of relationship with a God who had proven faithful even when Abraham had not. The central question this passage places before us is one we all must answer: when God makes a request of us, do we respond with immediate surrender or with another night of deliberation?
