We’re creatures of longing, constantly chasing the next milestone—whether it’s a driver’s license, a career advancement, or retirement. Yet the psalmist invites us into a radically different pursuit: longing for the presence of God above all else. The message draws a striking contrast between the Old Testament worshiper who had to journey to Jerusalem’s courts for reconciliation and our present reality through Christ. Where ancient pilgrims sang ‘Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere’ while traveling for weeks to offer sacrifices, we now have immediate access to God’s presence through Jesus’ once-for-all sacrifice. The sermon unpacks three profound blessings: finding rest in God’s presence rather than exhausting ourselves trying to earn His favor; discovering strength by setting our hearts like highways toward heaven; and learning to trust God’s promises even when circumstances seem to contradict them.
