Scripture: Psalm 23-1-28

When life feels like it’s caving in and chaos surrounds us, we often cry out to God asking why He seems silent. This exploration of Psalm 83 invites us into three transformative prayers: do something, do what you did before, and do whatever makes you known. We discover that our seemingly inactive God is actually profoundly at work right now—listening to our anxious hearts, loving us despite our failures, welcoming souls into paradise, holding galaxies together, and rejoicing over us with loud singing. The psalmist reminds us to get historical instead of hysterical, looking back at how God used weak vessels like Gideon’s 300 men and courageous women like Deborah and Jael to accomplish impossible victories. Perhaps most challenging is the realization that God sometimes allows us to face our shame—not to condemn us, but so He can cover it with grace, just as Jesus did with the woman at the well. Her worst day became her greatest testimony when she ran back to town saying, ‘Come see the man who told me everything I ever did.’ The twist comes when we realize that God’s silence might not be absence but presence, inviting us to quiet ourselves enough to hear His still, small voice and experience Him in the boat with us, fully in control even when He appears to be sleeping.
