Book: Colossians

Living In The Power Of The Gospel

This message confronts a struggle many of us face in our spiritual lives: trying to live the Christian life through our own effort and power rather than being plugged into God’s strength. Drawing from Colossians 1:9-14, we’re invited to examine whether we’re exhausting ourselves by pulling the spiritual ‘start cord’ repeatedly, or whether we’re connected to the divine power source that transforms everything. Paul’s prayer for the Colossian believers reveals a radical priority—that before safety, comfort, or success, we would first seek deep knowledge of God and His will. This isn’t superficial Bible trivia, but an intimate, Spirit-enabled understanding that changes how we walk through life. When we’re rooted in this knowledge, our ordinary actions suddenly bear eternal fruit, our faith is strengthened for life’s darkest moments, and we discover we can actually walk in a manner that pleases God—not through striving, but through dependence. The stunning image from Zechariah 3 reminds us that we stand before God not in our filthy garments of effort and failure, but clothed in Christ’s righteousness. The question becomes: are we living tired and worn out, trying to prove ourselves worthy, or are we accepting Jesus’ invitation to find rest and live from the life He gives us?
