Book: Colossians

This message draws us into the closing chapter of Colossians, where we discover that authentic faith isn’t meant to isolate us but to invite others in. We’re challenged to consider whether our lives create curiosity about Christ in those around us. The concept of our speech being ‘seasoned with salt’ takes on profound meaning as we explore salt’s dual purpose in the ancient world: preservation and enhancement. Just as salt preserved food and made it more flavorful, our words and actions should preserve truth while making the Christian life appear vibrant and attractive to outsiders. The sermon confronts us with a sobering question: does our faith cause people to wonder about the hope within us, or does it push them away? Through the story of Randy, who came to faith because believers showed him ‘peculiar love,’ we see that the church’s compassion often sparks spiritual curiosity before Scripture ever opens. We’re reminded that our fortress of faith shouldn’t have walls that exclude but doors that welcome. This teaching calls us to examine whether we’re living in such a way that others stop and ask, ‘What is it about you that gives you peace and joy when facing the same storms I’m facing?’ Our faith should be the salt that makes people hungry for what we have.
