Prayer Focus this Week: Compassion
This week we are praying for hearts of compassion. In Matthew 9, we see crowds of people running to Jesus for healing and hope. He heals a paralytic and two blind men, he raises a young girl from the dead, and restores a woman with a terrible disease to health. These are all people whom the world had no compassion on. They were cast out, seen as unworthy and weak.
Yet Jesus does not see them this way. “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd” (Matthew 9:36). Instead of turning away, he drew near.
We are often tempted to be consumed with ourselves, our own fears, and our own concerns. It is in these moments when we can ask God to help us turn our hearts towards others. When we are tempted to focus on the temporal things of earth, Scripture calls us to consider eternal things that are above. Let’s ask God to give us hearts like his and to give us opportunities to serve those around us.
Lord, help me to have compassion on those around me. Give me the eyes of Jesus to see people the same way that Jesus did. You drew me in when I was wandering like a sheep without a shepherd. Help me to extend the same love that you have shown me to others I encounter.
Pre-Worship Prayer Circles in the Cafeteria and Online
We are seeking to be a church that is quick to pray and unified in the Spirit. Join us this week to practice what we say we believe at 8:45AM on Sunday in the Cafeteria.
If you’re at home, you can join online. Click the link below to join in:
Rolesville Food Bank Opportunity
We are encouraging small groups, families and individuals to join in this effort to provide for those in need around Rolesville this Thanksgiving. This is one small way we can show love to our neighbors and extend the love of God. Ask Him how you might give sacrificially this holiday season in order that he might be honored and glorified.
Sermon on Elders
Brian referenced Sunday a sermon he preached a couple years ago concerning the role of elders in the Church. We’ve linked that sermon here if you are interested in hearing more about what this means.
Exchange Church is gathering on Sunday mornings at North Raleigh Christian Academy, 7300 Perry Creek Rd. Raleigh, NC 27616.
