Delighting in God’s Word

“In the way of your testimonies I delight as much as in all riches. I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.” Psalm 119:14-15

God’s Word delights his children, and it is a means by which we satisfy our longing to know our Father more. Through reading the Scriptures we can gain knowledge of who He is, who we are, and how we should engage the world as aliens and exiles awaiting the coming of Christ.

If you don’t know where to start reading or need a guide, we recommend the Read Scripture App. You can set up a plan to read daily or find tools to help you understand the story of Scripture with videos from The Bible Project.

Here’s an example of what you might see as you explore this resource:

Book Recommendations

Want to know what some Exchange ministry leaders are currently reading? Here’s some suggestions they have for you!

From Jesse Gordon: Reforesting Faith: What Trees Teach Us About the Nature of God and His Love for Us by Matthew Sleeth. “Sleeth walks from Genesis to Revelation and shows us the important role trees play throughout the whole narrative of Scripture. I can’t think of a more perfect time to read it as we move into full fall colors.”

From Ed Martin: Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers by Dane Ortlund. “Just order it!”

From Brian Kohout: Evangelism in a Skeptical World: How to make the Unbelievable New about Jesus More Believable by Sam Chan

From Tyler Gibbens: a Pulitzer prize-winning biography of John Adams by David McCullough. “John Adams? I know him… Good luck!” —King George

From Sue Michael: You Are What You Love: The Spiritual Power of Habit by James K.A. Smith. “Infuriatingly thought-provoking read into the formation and ordering of our loves.”
